Health officials say five more Orange County residents were tested for swine flu Tuesday after three cases were confirmed in the county Monday.
A nursing home in Goshen says it is waiting for test results on a resident there who exhibited symptoms of the flu. According to health officials, an employee from the nursing home had a confirmed case of swine flu, but recovered and returned to work.
Health officials say a New York City firefighter and a teenaged member of his family also tested positive. According to health officials, the firefighter and teen are expected to be back at work and school this week.
An additional person in Orange County has been hospitalized with what health officials believe is seasonal flu. Test results are not yet available. In Rockland County, health officials are awaiting test results on three probable cases of swine flu. Officials say no new cases surfaced in Rockland Tuesday.
Both counties are monitoring hospitals and nursing homes. Health officials say schools can remain open, though they should report any increase in absences among students and staff.
