An animal shelter in Rockland is under the microscope after the organization's president was indicted Thursday.
Hi-Tor Animal Shelter President Debbie DiBernardo was indicted by a grand jury on 17 counts of falsifying business records and one count of offering a false instrument for filing.
According to the Rockland District Attorney's Office, she's accused of falsely entering records related to 17 animals to the county Health Department back in June 2020.
County Executive Ed Day says he's seeking answers from the shelter on how they will continue operations safely on top of health officials checking on the animals twice a day.
Volunteers and staff were seen working and the shelter Friday.
DiBernando was released on her own recognizance and is expected back in court on Jan. 18.
