The Highland Falls-Fort Montgomery school board has announced new cuts after its proposed $24.5-million budget was defeated by voters last Tuesday.
The board announced it would be cutting the pre-kindergarten program, three kindergarten aides, library and technology programs for students in kindergarten through second grade and the art program for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Varsity skiing, tennis and a custodian position will also be cut.
The district says it will ask district employee unions for concessions and lobby Albany for increased funding to prevent the proposed cuts.
The board said it is confident it will still be able to maintain its quality education. Last week, the schools were cited by Newsday for their advanced placement courses.
