More than two dozen dogs were rescued from a Bay Shore home Tuesday after authorities found them living in what the Suffolk SPCA called "deplorable conditions."

Officials say 25 dogs were removed from the Richland Boulevard home of Robin Mills, where the stench of feces could be smelled from the street.

Robin Mills claims the dogs were left in her care by a friend.

“She asked me if I can watch her dogs until she came back up,” Mills said. “And she came two weeks ago.”

But neighbors say the situation has been ongoing for years.

“The constant barking and yelping and screaming, it really made me think, 'What’s going on next door?'” said Dani Zaragoza, who lives nearby.

First responders were forced to cut open the back deck of the home to rescue some of the animals that were underneath. Investigators say the inside of the house was so saturated with urine and feces that ammonia levels raised concerns about a possible explosion. Utilities were cut, and the home has now been deemed uninhabitable.

According to sources, this isn’t the first time Mills has been in trouble for animal neglect.

In 2017, she was convicted on multiple counts of animal cruelty for neglecting 21 dogs and an exotic bird in the same house.

No arrests have been made at this time.

News 12 reached out to the Town of Islip about past complaints that neighbors say were ignored but has not yet received a response.
