The region is now on the path to recovery after torrential rain inundated the Hudson Valley, causing street closures and parkway shutdowns on Monday.
While the worst of the heavy rain showers has passed, the aftermath led to significant flooding and road closures in Westchester County.
Warburton Avenue in Yonkers, which had been closed from Arthur Street to Odell Avenue, has now reopened. The extent of the flooding can be seen in exclusive footage obtained by News 12. Neighbors came together to rescue a stranded driver from rising floodwaters on Culver Street.
The floodwaters are gone, and roads have opened up. Some spots are still tough to navigate.
Residents attempting to walk up Warburton Avenue in Yonkers this morning had to contend with mud, muck and debris left behind by Monday afternoon's heavy rains.
Edwin Echevarria had to maneuver a bit with his 15-month-old son, Theo. "It's scary how fast it can happen too. You're driving down the street, it's clear weather and then it just starts sort of downpouring. Then halfway down the road, it stops raining, and then it keeps going like that."
Another driver recounted her harrowing experience, sharing that her car was totaled, but she managed to escape.
The flooding was widespread in Yonkers, with Culver Street being just one of several submerged areas. Nepperhan Avenue, from Executive Boulevard to Cross Hill Avenue, also saw around half a dozen cars trapped due to the rising waters.
Sections of the Saw Mill River Parkway had to be temporarily closed due to cars veering off the road and other hazardous conditions.
While Yonkers faced significant challenges, reports also emerged of flooding in parts of New Rochelle and Greenburgh.
Metro-North also had delays Monday night as crews had to remove weather-related debris from the track area between the Greystone and Riverdale stations. Trains this morning as on or close to schedule.
