Hundreds gathered at Saint Mary's Church Saturday to mourn the sudden loss of a renowned Yonkers priest.
Monsignor Sami Totah's life was suddenly cut short by lung cancer. He stepped down from his post after being diagnosed in March.
Totah was well-known in the Yonkers community and served 38 years at Saint Mary's Church. The priest was also part of the board of trustees at Saint Joseph's Medical Center.
Members of the church community who attended the memorial shared treasured memories of Totah, who they say was a good man who always gave so much to Yonkers.
Fellow religious leaders attended the memorial as well, traveling from as far as Jerusalem to pay respects.
Totah was buried in San Francisco, where his family lives.
