Westchester County hunters are being encouraged to apply for deer management permits as the state works to reduce the local deer population.
The Department of Environmental Conservation is selling hunting licenses and offering extra opportunities to harvest antlerless deer this season.
Officials say the goal is to maximize the number of female deer hunted.
Residents both in and outside of Westchester have a high chance of receiving a permit.
