An ICE spokesperson says 40-year-old Fernando Jimenez, the man accused of the triple shooting in Somers is an illegal immigrant from Chile.

Michael Raimondi, 15, was shot and killed and his 13-year-old brother Matthew and their mother Christina were critically injured in the shooting.

The spokesperson says U.S. Border Patrol encountered Jimenez in California in 2004 and during this encounter, he claimed to be to be Erik Melendez-Arellano from Mexico. They say he was voluntarily returned to Mexico.

The spokesperson says Jiminez unlawfully reentered the United States at some point after the encounter.

State police said on Tuesday that they arrested Jimenez in connection to the Monday night shooting in the Town of Somers.

ERO New York City lodged an immigration detainer with Westchester County Jail on Oct. 30, where Jimenez is currently being held on local charges.
