New plow truck to be deployed during nor'easter in Yonkers

A new piece of equipment is being deployed to help tackle snow in Yonkers.
Yonkers Department of Public Works Commissioner Thomas Meier says this will be the first time a new large plow will be tested on the roads.
News 12 got a preview of what it could do ahead of the weekend nor'easter.
"This can actually knock out three lanes at a time," says Meier.
The truck has a wider reach to spray a brine mixture to pre-treat the roads.
"The brine mixture is just a saltwater mixture, we add beet juice into it because the protein helps...prevents the snow from bonding to the asphalt," says Meier.
The wing plow will come in handy when it comes to plowing the six-lane roadway on Central Avenue.
"Instead of hitting that six times north and south, we can actually do it in two runs," says Meier.
Meier says he's watching the weather closely and that his department is ready to tackle whatever Mother Nature throws their way.
Even with all the manpower on hand and new equipment, Meier is still concerned about safety.
He recommends drivers stay off of the roads during the snowstorm as much as possible, especially if you have bad tires.
