Jury selection started Tuesday in the Orange County Courthouse in the case of a grandfather accused in the shooting death of his grandson during a hunting trip.
According to police, Wayne Kingston, of Huguenot, shot his 13-year-old grandson, David, in the back during a hunting trip in Sparrowbush last Thanksgiving. Police say Wayne and his nephew, Jake, left David alone for more than an hour while they continued hunting. The prosecutors believe that the men were more concerned about illegally hunting doe without a permit than getting David to a hospital.
Jake Kingston pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in April. Jake is expected to testify against his uncle, Wayne. The trial is set to begin August 7. Wayne Kingston faces five to 15 years in prison if convicted.
