A Kingston man who previously worked as a local chiropractor — and is awaiting sentencing in a major child sexual abuse material case — is facing new charges after Ulster police say he assaulted his 19-month-old child.
According to police, officers responded to a home in the Town of Ulster on Nov. 15 for a reported child-abuse complaint. A joint investigation between the Ulster Police Department and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Corrections Division found that 34-year-old John F. Boyle III struck his toddler multiple times, causing swelling and discoloration to the child’s face.
Investigators say the incident also happened in front of Boyle’s 3-year-old child, and that he also made threatening statements to one of the victims.
Boyle is charged with assault, endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated harassment. Police say he was processed and is awaiting arraignment in Ulster County Centralized Arraignment Court.
These new charges come as Boyle awaits sentencing in a separate child exploitation case. He pleaded guilty in June 2025 to possessing and promoting child sexual abuse material after authorities found thousands of illicit images and videos during a New York State Police investigation.
His wife, 34-year-old Danielle Scofield, was sentenced in October to six months in jail for her role in the case and 10 years of sex-offender probation after pleading guilty to possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child. She is required to register as a sex offender, with a risk-level hearing scheduled for Nov. 14.
Investigators said Scofield shared 26 images and videos containing child sexual abuse material through text messages and encrypted apps, including Session and Telegram, with Boyle and others.
Ulster County District Attorney Emmanuel Nneji previously said the case had “rattled the Ulster County community” and stressed the need for continued vigilance in exposing child exploitation.
Boyle’s attorney says there was no injury to the child and claimed this was a tactic used by the district attorney’s office to increase his sentence. Under a plea agreement, Boyle is scheduled to receive between six years and eight months to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced in December. Anyone with information related to the Boyle cases is encouraged to contact New York State Police.
