Activists and family members of Laura Garza held a candlelight vigil Thursday evening in front of the Newburgh home of the parents of the convicted sex offender who accompanied the young woman when she went missing two months ago.
The people who gathered in front of the house of Michael Mele?s family traveled from the Bronx by bus to demand answers about Garza?s disappearance.
Garza, 25, was last seen in December of last year leaving a Manhattan nightclub with Mele. Since then, investigators have searched Mele?s Middletown condominium and scoured thousands of acres of land in Orange and Sullivan counties, but no traces of the young woman were found.
The group from the Bronx is appealing to Mele's parents to ask their son to reveal Garza?s whereabouts.
?He is last one that was seen with her,? says Garza?s mother, Elizabeth Garza. ?We know he doesn't want to speak, but we're asking his parents ? they're the only people who can get in touch with him.?
Mele remains behind bars for violating his probation. He has not been charged with any crime in connection to Garza?s disappearance.
