A lawmaker in New York is fighting to make it easier to help women in Texas navigate the state's new anti-abortion laws.
The law in Texas which bans most abortions as early as six weeks into a pregnancy, currently allows civil lawsuits to be filed against anyone who helps a woman get the procedure.
Assemblywoman Amy Paulin (D - Scarsdale) has proposed a bill that would protect New Yorkers who offer their financial support to any Texas resident. "The judgement would be made against the New Yorkers, but they would not be able to collect any kind of damages in New York. So a New Yorker could help and aid and abet any woman in Texas seeking an abortion," says Paulin.
Paulin says she will fight to get the bill passed once New York's legislative session picks back up in January.
Meantime, the Supreme Court has agreed to fast track its decision on an appeal to the restrictive law.
