The Legacy Youth Awards were given out to local teenagers Monday who are continuing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.?s work in their communities. Seven young men and women who are keeping the teachings of the civil rights leader alive were honored in Tarrytown. Among the winners was college sophomore Mia Kai Moody who is helping recruit more minority students to the Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers. Heather Nibur from Hastings High School was also honored for developing a program that teaches acceptance of both gay and straight teens. Over the years, the event has grown in size and this year more than 400 people attended the luncheon organized by the African American Men of Westchester.
