The families of 9/11 victims have taken action to hold this year?s September 11th ceremony at Ground Zero after hearing the city moved the location.
With the sixth-year anniversary of 9/11 approaching, family members of victims filed a permit to hold the memorial ceremony where they say it belongs, at Ground Zero. The city decided to move the location to Zuccotti Park, citing safety reasons from ongoing construction.
Family members say the new location isn't large enough for the thousands of people expected to come to the memorial. They say the park is not the place where their loved ones died. Victims? families also claim the location change is a cover-up since remains are still being discovered at Ground Zero.
Even former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a Republican contender in the race for the White House, spoke out about the controversy. ?I have a real emotional attachment to its being there and I wish the city would have it there,? Giuliani said.
Families say the don?t want to end the rebuilding at Ground Zero, but they just want it to stop for one day so they can go there to remember loved ones. If the permit is rejected, an attorney for the families says he may take action in federal court.
