Westchester and Rockland Democrats motivated supporters in Tarrytown Wednesday to get out the vote at a rally focused on reproductive rights.
Those area Democrats are pushing to get more people to the polls, especially for the race to decide New York's 17th Congressional District as Early Voting is underway and Election Day less than a week away.
"Mondaire Jones will be the next congressman from New York's 17,” said Kirsten Gillibrand, the Democratic U.S. Senator for New York. "He will go into the future to make a big difference for New York."
Congressional Democrat candidate Jones said, "my opponent unfortunately, always votes against choice."
Many speakers attacked Mike Lawler, the incumbent seeking re-election for that seat, and other Republicans for not supporting a woman's right to choose.
Daphne Uviller, reproductive freedoms activist said, "If you want to protect the health and the lives of the women you know, and know, or even just like or don't know. Vote for Mondaire Jones, and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, and state Sen. Pete Harckham and state Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins."
A spokesman for Rep. Lawler tells News 12 in a statement, "Congressman Lawler has been emphatically clear - he will not support a national abortion ban, and he’s consistently fought to preserve access to mifepristone, contraception, and fertility treatments."
A recent Emerson college poll shows Lawler leading Jones by 5% with most of those polled saying the economy is the biggest issue.
