A school resource officer has been removed from working at a school in the Somers Central School District.

The school district sent out an email to the school community saying the officer made social media posts that glorified violence.

They say the officer is a Westchester County Police Department officer who is assigned to work in the district.

"The nature of the posts glorifies violence, which is completely unacceptable for someone entrusted with the safety of students and staff members," said Superintendent Adam Bronstein in the email.

Some parents are concerned but are relieved the school district took action quickly.

“These are people that we entrust with our kids on a daily basis," says parent Rebecca Bahmani. “I thought that the school took corrective action, and they look like they did it pretty quickly."

"The officers are always very pleasant when I had to go to the schools. I really am shocked," says parent Amy Zimei.

Others say the move to remove the SRO was too quick.

“I don’t believe in people should be penalizing for what they say and believe in," says resident Joanne Mancuso. "They should do more investigation before they make any choices.”

School officials say the officer won’t work in Somers schools anymore.

The SRO has been assigned to administrative duty by the Westchester County Police Department as they conduct their investigation

School officials say another SRO will be assigned on Monday.
