A man was arrested after firing a gun at another man in Bay Shore.
Steven James, 34, of Central Islip, also pistol-whipped the victim, Suffolk police say.
The incident happened at an apartment complex on Howells Road late Wednesday night, according to police.
James then drove himself to his home in Central Islip and barricaded himself for about four hours.
Police arrested him around 3 a.m.
The victim was not seriously hurt.
Neighbors in Central Islip say the barricade situation shut down their entire block overnight.
Residents say they saw officers surround the area and were told they could not leave their homes until the standoff ended.
One woman said police even escorted her sisters back home when they attempted to walk to a nearby store.
James’ mother told News 12 she was home during the police response and insisted her son is not a violent person, pleading for officers to keep him safe during the hours long standoff.
Police say James is now facing multiple charges, including reckless endangerment, assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.
