Man calls News 12 after blast threat in Bardonia home
A standoff between police and a man threatening to blow up a Bardonia house lasted hours Tuesday, with News 12 Hudson Valley becoming an active part of the story.
The suspect barricaded himself inside 87 Westlyn Dr. As negotiations for his surrender were taking place, the man called the News 12 Hudson Valley newsroom and demanded a crew film his arrest.
Negotiators managed to get the man out of the house around 8:00 p.m. He began to yell however, and was shot with a Taser as he tried to get in the house.
Police were able to bring the man into custody after he fell to the floor.
The ordeal started hours earlier, when police say a woman and her son walked into the Clarkstown police station stating her husband was distraught. She's the one who informed authorities of the explosion threats.
Police say no explosives or weapons were found in the home. Authorities believe the man was distraught over a financial problem.
The suspect was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital to be checked out and to undergo a psychological evaluation.
No charges have been filed against the man at this point.
