A Washington state man who ran a fraud scheme against immigrant families in Yonkers has been sentenced.
On Monday, Juan Cedillo was sentenced to one to three years in state prison. He also owes about $51,000 in restitution and can't have contact with the victims.
The scheme started back in 2013.
Cedillo falsely told families he could expedite their citizenships, charging them thousands of dollars.
He was caught back in 2019.
He was released in 2020 and attended virtual court hearings. However, he was on the run for years after the judge ordered him to be in person again.
He was eventually arrested in Washington state.
In early June, Cedillo pleaded guilty to one count of scheme to defraud in the first degree.
A Westchester County judge told him Monday, he preyed on some of the most vulnerable.
"You took advantage of their strong desire to live the great American dream," said the Honorable Maurice Williams.
Cedillo's lawyer told News 12, his client has already served a lot of the time handed down.
"He's pretty much served all his time so he should be out relatively soon," says Richard Ferrante, Cedillo's lawyer.
There's no word right now how soon that will be.
