Many commuters in Rockland and Westchester counties, who are now subject to random bag searches in the wake of the London attacks, say they don?t mind.
All riders on New York and New Jersey Port Authority facilities, as well as Metro-North and subways, will be subject to random bag and backpack searches. Port Authority officials say anyone who refuses the searches will not be allowed to ride. Many commuters say they feel a little bit safer knowing the searches are taking place.
Meanwhile, the MTA says it is installing more security cameras to help keep the subways safe. The MTA is also training transit workers on how to deal with potential terrorists.
MTA officials urge commuters to call 1-888-NYC-SAFE (692-7233)if they see something suspicious.
