A large overnight fire destroyed an equipment barn at Wright’s Farm in Gardiner Tuesday night, but no one was hurt and the farmstand and brewery remain open.
According to the Gardiner Fire Department, crews were dispatched just after 8 p.m. for a report of a tractor on fire under a barn. When firefighters arrived, they found the tractor fully engulfed, and flames had spread to an 80 x100-foot equipment barn containing multiple pieces of heavy machinery.
Fire officials say the blaze quickly vented through the roof, triggering a second alarm and a massive multiagency response. Departments from across Ulster and Orange counties responded, including Gardiner, Modena, Plattekill, New Paltz, Marlboro, Walden, Accord and others.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Gardiner Fire Chief Matthew Goodnow commended the teamwork.
“The quick mutual aid response and coordination between all departments helped prevent further loss and ensured firefighter safety during a very challenging fire," said Goodnow.
Wright’s Farm posted on social media thanking firefighters and the community for their outpouring of support.
They say the barn housed most of their tractors, apple bins and firewood, calling the loss devastating, but added that the best way to help is by continuing to support their family-run business.
The farm says it’s still taking Thanksgiving pie orders and remains open daily year-round with fruit, donuts, jams, pies and more.
The Gardiner Brewing Company, located on the farm, will also be open this weekend.
