The Metro-North station in White Plains got a top-to -bottom renovation.  

The project includes new signage, energy-efficient LED lighting, added USB chargers on benches, Wi-Fi and digital screens that provide updated train information.

The $95 million capital project started three years ago, with the goal to bring state-of-the-art improvements to the White Plains station.

Officials say it was long overdue: The station has the third highest ridership in the Metro-North system - second only to Stamford and Grand Central Terminal.

 The interior also got a face lift, with a glass-enclosed waiting area, artwork, upgraded restrooms and a new ceiling and walls. It also has radiant heating.

There are also some safety upgrades, including new security cameras and a new elevator. The station is now Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant.

All of this comes at a time as Metro-North and the MTA are working to increase ridership in the wake of the pandemic. Ridership on the Metro-North is currently at 40-45%.

The station served more than 12,000 commuters a day before the pandemic.
