Dozens of corrections officers are still waiting to hear where their new work assignments will be after the Mid-Orange Correctional Facility in Warwick closed its gates for good.
More than 100 officers began work at other facilities today, but there are still employees who don't know when or where they will be transferred. Those officers say it's nerve-racking to wait and not know if they will have to relocate their families.
Union representatives say no officers are expected to be laid off and that they should all have their new assignments in the next few weeks.
The prison was shut down by the state in order to save money. Warwick Town Supervisor Mike Sweeton says it's still unclear what will be done with the facility, but says he's working to ensure that whatever comes in fits with the community.
