Stainless steel travel cups like Stanley and Yeti will be banned when classes begin Wednesday in the Middletown School District.

The new policy affects students in grades 6 through 12. District officials say the cups can be heavy and pose a safety risk if misused.

Students are allowed to bring plastic water bottles or lightweight, clear refillable cups instead.

The district says the change is a proactive step to keep schools safe and focused on learning.
