The City of Mount Vernon has demanded the Village of Bronxville stop working on an $8.5 million drainage program that residents say is passing flooding issues over their border.
The village's project would build a new storm sewer but leave the old one still in place. The capacity of the new sewer is four times the capacity of the old one.
Both the new and the old sewers would connect to the City of Mount Vernon's system.
People in the community say this would just push Bronxville's drainage issues to Mount Vernon.
"We sent a cease-and-desist letter to Bronxville letting them know that Mount Vernon challenges the project and that we could not support it until we had adequate engineering information that is verified by our engineers and our contractors, and until we can get that we will continue to demand this project not go forward," said Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard.
News 12 reached out to Bronxville officials but have not yet heard back.
