The president of a national teachers union was in the Hudson Valley on Thursday.
Randi Weingarten, of the American Federation of Teachers, spent the day touring two White Plains public schools.
Her goal was to see how career and tech education programs in the district help students grow and learn skills for the future.
"We need to stop focusing on tests and focus instead on what's relevant and engaging for young adults and for young kids," Weingarten said. "Career-tech ed is a perfect example of that."
Weingarten also sat down with school leaders and participating students to learn more about the benefit of this kind of education.
