First responders from Westchester County are answering the call to help Ukraine.
New Rochelle firefighters will be helping their fellow first responders overseas in Ukraine’s fire and emergency services by donating a truck load of used gear, including coats, pants, boots and masks.
The call to action was started by a Ukrainian-born New Jersey firefighter who will send everything over to Poland on a cargo plane and then into the war-torn country.
Crews spent the morning loading up the truck and will be sending off the gear later today. "There's not much we can do physically for them right now. If we saw them, give them a hug, tell them we're with them. Tell them to hang tough," says New Rochelle Fire Chief Andrew Sandor.
