The city of New Rochelle kicked off Pride Month Wednesday with its first public Pride celebration.
Rainbow colors took over City Hall as people raised the Pride flag.
City staffers say this started as a conversation between LGBTQ colleagues three years ago.
It first happened just as a celebration among city staff.
Wednesday marked the first time the celebration was available for all to enjoy.
The celebration had an impact on some residents.
"I'm grateful that I have a place that accepts me," said Chiara Vetter.
"This is really helpful because most of the people in the group I know, they're really closeted at the moment and this'll help them come out more like as whatever sexuality they are and it makes me really happy this is a thing," said Jason Osorio.
The event also featured music, a taco truck and booths that that represented resources for the community from new Rochelle and Westchester County.
