New York is one of 44 states urging two popular social media apps to allow stronger parental controls.

The National Association of Attorneys General, which includes New York Attorney General Letitia Lames, sent a letter this week to Snapchat and TikTok to ask them to give parents more control over their kids' accounts.

Numerous apps allow parents to regulate all of their kids' accounts in one, except for these two.

Parents in West Nyack told News 12 that this is something they want.

"You can correct things if you see them, you can keep your kid out of harm,” Guy Dellaria says.

The attorneys general join members of Congress and President Joe Biden, who asked Congress for more privacy protections for kids in the president’s State of the Union Address.

The attorneys general say they're particularly concerned about the apps' "Discover" and "For you" pages that can sometimes include nudity, crude language, and drug activity.

Snapchat and TikTok both say they're working on it.

In a statement, a TikTok spokesperson says in part, "We build youth well-being into our policies, limit features by age, and empower parents with tools and resources to customize their TikTok experience."

And Snapchat spokesperson says in part, "We're currently developing new tools for parents that will provide them with more insight and visibility into how their children are engaging on snapchat and ways to report troubling content."
