Democratic Rep. Ritchie Torres says he is endorsing Kathy Hochul for governor.

Rep. Torres made the announcement official to News 12's Amanda Bossard on Tuesday afternoon.

"We're facing an unprecedented assault from the Trump administration," said Torres. "The Trump administration's signature piece of legislation, the so-called Big, Beautiful Bill, represents one of the greatest assaults on working families here in The Bronx that I've ever seen. It's going to cause 17 million to lose their health coverage, including a million in New York and 100,000 in The Bronx. It's going to slash Medicaid by $1 trillion, the largest health care cut in history. It's going to slash SNAP by $300 billion, the largest food assistance cut in history. It's going to raise the cost of utilities for small businesses and American families. And so now more than ever, it's important for every Democrat and every New Yorker to stand with the governor."

Hochul is up for reelection in 2026. So far she will face former Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado in the Democratic race.

Rep. Elise Stefanik is considering a run as the Republican candidate. Rep. Mike Lawler announced he would not run.
