Law enforcement sources have confirmed to News 12 that Pace University student Danroy Henry was drunk when he was fatally shot by police Sunday morning.
Officials say the 20-year-old athlete had a blood-alcohol level of .13 during the shooting outside Finegan's Bar in Thornwood. The legal limit in New York is .08.
Earlier today, Mount Pleasant Police Chief Louis Algano held a press conference discussing the events surrounding the incident. He denied witness reports that claim Henry went 15 minutes before receiving help.
According to many of Henry's friends at the scene, police not only didn't let them help Henry, but beat and Tasered them. The students joined attorneys and civil rights activists for their own press conference where they claimed police brutality.
The head of the National Latino Officers Association also joined with minority law enforcement groups and criticized the police department's response to the shooting.
The complete results of Henry's autopsy have yet to be released.
A memorial service for the young athlete will be held in Boston next Friday on what would have been his 21st birthday.
