‘No Kings’ demonstrations will take place across the country Saturday, with rallies stretching from New York to Los Angeles — and multiple gatherings right here in the Hudson Valley.
In Westchester County, protests will be held in Tarrytown, Yonkers and Hastings-on-Hudson. Participants are calling for what they describe as the protection of democracy and limits on presidential power.
Organizers say the nationwide movement is focused on defending the Constitution and ensuring that no president operates above the law.
Barbara Hanna, of Yonkers, says her concerns extend beyond constitutional issues to U.S. involvement overseas.
“The war is number one right now, the killings, especially civilians. It’s just horrendous. And I don’t think there was any planning going into it,” she said. “The concept that they’d possibly send boots on the ground is just untenable… We need community here in the river towns to support each other.”
Organizers point to the conflict involving Iran and the assignment of ICE agents at airports as recent examples of what they call presidential overreach.
