A New York City Housing Authority tenant tells News 12 that she has been dealing with a mouse infestation since January.
The tenant says that she and her three children have struggled to sleep due to the rodents in their home, and that she’s caught over 20 mice since the infestation started.
“I’ll be waking up early in the morning hearing scratching on the walls, squeaking, it’s always the mice on the traps,” said the tenant. “I’m sitting here thinking I’m doing my best and they don’t wanna live in this house. I have to pay for them to go to an Airbnb because they don’t feel comfortable to sleep here.”
The tenant showed News 12 the many tickets she’s submitted since January, and says she was told she’ll have to wait until April 25 for the holes in her home where the mice enter to be patched up.
Tenants outside the building say that the garbage chute in the building has been out of commission for months, leading to trash in the hallways.
News 12 reached out to NYCHA for a statement and is awaiting a response.
