Officials say five people were arrested, including a juvenile, after gunshots were heard in a New City neighborhood Saturday.

Clarkstown Superintendent George Hoehmann says around 2:15 p.m., people called police after hearing gunshots on Turnberry Court. Officers and sheriff's deputies saw a black Mercedes take off fast and followed it.

Officials say the car hit a utility pole and five people, all from Brooklyn, got out and ran. Police also found four guns in the vehicle.

Neighbors say they're outraged by the shooting and are writing to lawmakers to ban home rentals in the neighborhood. Police say they believe the house the gunshots came from was a rental.

Public records show it sold last year for almost $1 million. Hoehmann says about five years ago, Clarkstown started a rental registry to deter short-term rentals.

Hoehmann says if there are any violations of that law, his team will aggressively pursue it and look to tighten rental laws to keep everyone safe.
