A child fell and sustained serious injuries during a hiking field trip Thursday with the Beacon City School District, officials say.

School personnel on Mount Beacon attempted to give the child first aid. However, the child was unable to walk due to the injuries.

A medivac helicopter was sent to land at Memorial Park and the child was flown to a hospital for further treatment.

The child’s condition is unknown.
