Park rangers say a Rockland County woman's dog fell off a cliff at Rockland Lake State Park and died.

They say she was hiking on the Long Path at Hook Mountain trail with her dog off leash when another unleashed dog came by, causing the dogs to chase each other.

For the safety of both animals and other hikers, regulations require animals on marked trails to be kept on leashes of no more than six feet.
