A riot in the cafeteria sent Middletown High School into lockdown Thursday and ended in the arrest of a student.
Police say it all started when a student released a bag filled with almost 200 crickets. The wild prank quickly evolved into a food fight, which then turned violent. Students and authorities say there were a series of fights, at least three of them, mostly out of panic from the hundreds of crickets. About 25 police officers responded to the school. Police arrested 16-year-old Chris Laskaris, who they say tried to instigate a riot against the officers. No one was seriously injured.
Middletown police are reviewing surveillance taken from the school?s camera and are trying to figure out which student is responsible for letting out the crickets. They are also using video taken from student cell phones to identify anyone involved in the prank.
