Orange County Executive Edward Diana is furious over the failure of Indian Point warning sirens in the county during a test Tuesday.

Only six of 16 Indian Point sirens in Orange County worked when tested on a backup radio transmission system. When the county system used the primary telephone connections, all sirens worked. Diana says the backup and the primary systems need to work each and every time. Diana is asking for another test to be conducted within 30 days.

Diana still believes the plant should stay open and says the county has the best plan in place if an evacuation was ever needed. Since the latest siren failures, Entergy, which owns Indian Point, says it will work with the counties and hopes to have a system in place by the end of next year.
