The Ossining Police Department has been holding several virtual meetings to ask the public how it can do better.

Following the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and several others that sparked national outrage, Ossining police say they're hoping to create trust and transparency - so these incidents like that are not seen at home.

Every community in New York is required by the state to create a police reform plan. Saturday's ZOOM meeting allowed the public to speak up and give feedback about how Ossining police can improve.

The recommendations include revamping training on implicit bias and anti-racism and how to better respond to issues of mental health, homelessness and substance abuse.

They also want to create transparency about ICE's rules and increase diversity within hiring.

The feedback the village gets from these meetings will be submitted to the state for approval by April 1.

In the upcoming weeks, there will be a virtual meeting in Spanish and another meeting to specifically discuss interactions with the Black community.
