Parents against the state’s mask mandate held a rally in Putnam County on Sunday, saying they should have the right to choose what is best for their children.
Last week, Gov. Hochul’s indoor mask mandate was extended through Feb. 10. Michael Carroll says the situation is not fair for children.
“I have a grandchild who’s being forced to wear a mask in school and the teachers don’t,” says Carroll. “It’s not a law and they should stop.”
After the governor extended the mandate, she says a few days before it expires, she would re-evaluate the state’s COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.
Rally organizers say there could be more rallies ahead in their fight for freedom of choice.
Cases of COVID-19 have been coming down in the state recently after the Omicron variant swarmed the country.
