A correctional officer at Sing Sing Correctional Facility was hospitalized after being attacked by a drug-fueled inmate, according to the New York Correctional Officers and PBA.
Authorities say the suspect was high on synthetic marijuana when he attacked the officer on Monday.
News 12 is told that the inmate was returning from the recreation yard, when he suddenly charged the officer and began punching him repeatedly in the face.
Officials say the officer placed him in a body hold, but the inmate grabbed the officer's shirt and pulled him to the ground where he continued attacking him.
After getting back up, the officer was taken to Phelps Hospital and treated for injuries to his face, hand, shoulder and ankle. He is expected to be OK.
One of the officers who responded to the attack sustained pain to his wrist, lower arm and hand. He was treated at the facility and remained on duty.
The inmate is serving a 28 years to life sentence after being convicted of stalking and choking multiple women until they were unconscious, and then raping them over a four year period in Rochester.
