A Peekskill mother, who is scheduled for deportation, is leaving the United States with a strong message for other immigrant families.

Using a translator, Amy L. shared that she's set to be deported to Ecuador on Tuesday, even though she said she doesn't know why she's being forced to leave.

"She has a little fear to go back to them because there are some situations violence over there," the translator said. "But she feels very well because she is going with her son."

Although she and her son have to leave, the 25-year-old mom said she wants to raise awareness about the way ICE handles family cases and child separation during the detention process.

"They need to be close with their mother and it is said how it is happening," the translator said.

Amy said she decided to spend some of her last moments in the states speaking out because there was a video that was taken of her and her 4-year-old son, both in distress about being separated, before they were removed from their home by ICE agents in July.

In the video, the son was heard pleading with ICE agents.

The agents responded by reassuring the family that the young boy would be going with his mother.

ICE double downed on their claim on Tuesday that it does not separate families.

However, Amy warned other members of the community to have a plan in place for their children in case of detention or deportation.

Elected officials and community members also supported Amy's cause at a rally in Peekskill on Tuesday.
