Citizen app footage shows a person waving an item out a window in an attempt to flag down first responders as a fire rips through an apartment building in Kingsbridge.
The FDNY says 12 people are recovering in the hospital.
Fire crews responded to 3410 Kingsbridge Ave. just before 3 p.m. Tuesday, where orange flames were seen shooting from the third floor of the five-story building as thick black smoke billowed into the air above.
The FDNY issued a second alarm minutes later, sending 141 fire and EMS personnel to the scene.
Crews got the blaze under control in just over an hour, fire officials say.
EMS took the 12 victims to the hospital, where they are recovering from minor injuries.
