Pfizer says it is including toddlers in their latest round of coronavirus vaccine trials.
Pfizer announced in March that coronavirus vaccine trials are happening in children 5- to 11-year-olds, and now they say that children as young as six months could could be included in trials once a safety profile has been established.
Studies are underaway at Stanford Medicine and Cincinnati Children's Hospital to determine the most effective vaccine strategy for children.
Data analyzed from March in trials of 12- to 15-year-olds resulted in 100% efficacy, which pediatricans say is promising.
Dr. Christina Johns says children can get and spread the coronavirus, and in some cases can develop a severe infection.
"So I think it is very important that we include them in the entire pandemic conversation," Johns says.
Doctors say the only way to see if the same efficacy is available in children six months to 11-years-old to ensure it's safe.
