A state trooper shot and killed a pit bull after it attacked an 8-year-old girl and a 39-year-old woman in Ulster County on Tuesday.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Kyserike Road.
The child suffered head and neck injuries, while the woman sustained serious hand injuries.
When authorities arrived, the dog attempted to attack EMS personnel and the trooper, prompting the officer to fire.
Both victims were airlifted to Westchester Medical Center for treatment.
