According to local officials, plans are in the works to demolish the nearly vacant Nanuet Mall and rebuild a more state-of-the-art facility in its place.
Simon Properties, who owns Nanuet Mall, wouldn't confirm any plans. But according to Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gromack, officials have been asking the town about the building and picking up applications.
"Certainly, I think we can read between the lines. They are coming in with a demolition plan; they want to demolish the mall and build a new one," said Gromack.
David Alvarez, who owns the Banchetto Feast restaurant in the mall, said he welcomes the news, as the nearly vacant space has taken away the bulk of his business. "I think it's a terrific idea, you have to reinvent the shopping venue," said Alvarez.
The Sears and Macy's at the mall will remain, as the two businesses aren't owned by Simon Properties.
