The Town of Ramapo has met a state-mandated deadline for submitting a full fire safety report following the discovery of serious code violations at several private schools and yeshivas, officials say.

News 12 exposed the discrepancies with the "Playing with Fire" investigation, which unveiled allegations that Ramapo's chief fire inspector Adam Peltz turned a blind eye to serious violations at several schools. Of the 55 schools visited, about 75 percent had outdated and incomplete fire safety reports and compliance records.

The State Board of Education intervened and ordered the town to document its corrective actions by Thursday night.

Some of the details in the 400-page report include the town's authorization of hiring former fire inspector Thomas Buckley as an independent contractor to conduct safety inspections.

Officials will also explore more training and oversight for fire inspectors.

Several of the schools found with violations will be re-inspected.

The town is required to submit a second letter to the state detailing more actions that it is taking, which is due in a few weeks.
