Residents left the warmth of their homes early Sunday morning and into the bitter cold to try to dig their cars out from under the snow.
Robert Thompson did not have a shovel. He had to get creative so he could visit a sick friend in Brewster. He used his boots to kick the snow away and his car.
“I use my car to remove snow,” says Thompson. “Back and forward, back and forward.”
Charity Excel and her 10-year-old son Joshua were in a similar situation trying to get to church on Long Island.
“That don’t stop me from to church,” says Excel. “This snow won’t stop me.”
Joshua says he could not feel his hands after helping his mom get the car out.
“It’s really cold,” says Joshua.
