As News 12 has reported, five children have been struck in the Town of Ramapo communities of New Square, Spring Valley and Monsey in the last five months.

Four of them involved children struck by school buses and two incidents were fatal.

Police say the school bus driver that struck and injured a child in April was issued several tickets after passing another school bus on Maple Avenue. The driver who injured a 6-year-old in the same area in Monsey the month before was also ticketed, according to police, but authorities didn’t say what for.

According to town records, the drivers worked for United Talmudical Academy of Monsey and Avoides Meshliem Feish, Inc. News 12 reached out to both companies; someone at Avoides Meshliem Inc. said the driver involved was fired.

Ramapo police say another incident that killed a child in New Square was deemed an accident and that the others are being investigated by Spring Valley police.

News 12 reached them for information but hasn't heard back.
